What are Bundle Files?

A bundle file contains all the source code for a single iSeries NEWS article or column. When appropriate, the bundle file also contains compile instructions to generate the program.

Obtaining the iSeries NEWS Code Upload Facility

The Code Upload Facility is a Visual Basic program that extracts iSeries source code from iSeries NEWS source code bundle files and either exports those files to the PC or uploads and compiles them on the iSeries. You can download utility here.

Using the Code Upload Facility

  1. If you haven't done so already, install the Code Upload Facility per the instructions included with the program.
  2. Run the Code Upload Facility.
  3. In the Select and View Code tab, navigate to the source code bundle file on your local hard disk.
  4. Select the Upload to iSeries tab.
  5. Select an  iSeries under Hosts/Libraries. If you don't see any, press the Modify Hosts button to enter a host name.
  6. Enter a library name under Upload to library/file. Don't worry if the library doesn't exist, as the Code Upload Facility will create a new one for you.
  7. Select whether the source code will be stored into a single source file of your choosing, or if it will go to the appropriate QxxxSRC file (e.g., QRPGSRC for RPG programs, QCLSRC for CL programs, etc.). It's recommended that you store programs in QxxxSRC files.
  8. Click on the Compile the objects... checkbox to compile the source code automatically once it's uploaded. If there are no compile instructions included with the bundle file, this box will be inhibited.
  9. Press the Upload button.
